Grandfather Mountain: The tallest mountain in the Blue Ridge, Grandfather Mountain is the only private park in the world that has been designated by the United Nations as an International Biosphere Reserve. Blowing Rock: An immense cliff 4,000 feet above sea level, Blowing Rock overhangs Johns River Gorge 3,000 feet below and is NC's oldest travel attraction since 1933. Visit and discover the legend of an Indian Brave that jumped off the cliff for the love of young Indian Maiden, but was brought back up to the cliff by the strange winds that cause even snow to fall upside down. The Blue Ridge Parkway: The Blue Ridge Parkway is was designed as a recreational motor road connecting the Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. The Parkway winds 469 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. A drive down any part of the Parkway will provide the visitor with a cross-section of Appalachian mountain history. And ask our staff about different local hikes that can be found along the Parkway.
